Spencer Carpenter, a senior at Westview High in Indiana, won the boys blue division open race at the XC Town USA Meet of Champions, presented by The Garrett Companies. Carpenter covered the 5-kilometer layout in 15:59.9 at the LaVern Gibson course in Terre Haute, Ind., to place first overall in the combined results of the 298 male athletes in both open races. Carpenter was one of 37 competitors to run sub-16 in all boys races combined, including the championship event.
